DETROIT, Feb. 6, 2003 -- The Environmental Management Association, a non-profit organization of environmental professionals and businesses in Michigan, is accepting nominations for its 2003 Environmental Achievement Award through March 10.
The Environmental Achievement Award is given to organizations and individuals who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to ensuring proper environmental management in the course of doing business or administrating environmental policy. Specific criteria for the award include:
* Commitment to the environment, resulting in improved quality of life in Michigan;
* Use of resources from the environmental industry to provide innovative solutions to potential environmental challenges;
* Leadership with environmental issues affecting the nominee's situation;
* Sustained involvement in public policy issues that affect future quality of life, including social, economic and environmental factors;
* Use of nominee's position, business, resources and personal leadership to contribute to the community in which they are located (i.e. increased environmental awareness, community improvements, recycling efforts, jobs and opportunities that improve environmental management);

The Environmental Management Association is committed to the betterment of the state's natural and business environment through sound science and responsible management. The association provides educational programs for members and the community, conducts issues briefings for state policy makers and sponsors community activities involving the environment.
