Annual NGWA Summit to explore 'everything groundwater' this spring

The 2013 NGWA Summit will take place April 28-May 2 in San Antonio, Texas, featuring an agenda covering everything groundwater.

WESTERVILLE, OH, Jan. 30, 2013 -- The 2013 NGWA Summit -- The National and International Conference on Groundwater taking place April 28-May 2 in San Antonio, Texas, features an agenda covering "everything groundwater" from availability and the impacts on it from hydraulic fracturing to global issues such as sustainability and quality, and remediation.

Held annually by the National Ground Water Association, the NGWA Summit is now in its ninth year, and more than 190 presenters are expected, offering 32 platform presentations and 25 posters in nine topic areas:

  • Anything groundwater
  • Energy production/hydraulic fracturing
  • Global groundwater issues
  • Groundwater modeling
  • Groundwater monitoring
  • Groundwater remediation
  • Groundwater quality and availability
  • Karst hydrogeology and remediation
  • Texas and regional groundwater issues.

There will be panel presentations, twilight sessions, NGWREF Robert Farvolden Student Awards (made possible by a grant from S.S. Papadopulos & Associates Inc.), and guest speakers including:

  • Charles Fishman, New York Times best-selling author of The Big Thirst, who will deliver the Keynote Address
  • 2013 NGWREF Darcy Lecturer David L. Rudolph, Ph.D., PE, “Managing Groundwater Beneath the Agricultural Landscape”
  • 2013 NGWREF McEllhiney Lecturer John Jansen, Ph.D., PG, “Keeping the Pump Primed: Aquifer Sustainability” (this lecture series is made possible by a grant from Franklin Electric)
  • 2013 Birdsall-Dreiss Lecturer Dani Or, Ph.D., “How Do Porous Terrestrial Surfaces Control Evaporation into the Atmosphere?”

In addition, optional offerings taking place before and after the NGWA Summit include short courses, and a field trip and hands-on event.
