QUEBEC CITY, Aug. 28, 2001 — Following a call for tenders by the city of Charlesbourg, Quebec City-based H2O Innovation was awarded a $57,685 contract for a pilot project on surface water treatment in this municipality, which provides water to over 72,000 residents.

H2O Innovation will conduct nanofiltration treatability tests at the Keet dam on Lac des Roches from late August until December 2001. The colored waters of Lac des Roches are affected by inflows from the Montmorency River.

H2O Innovation's systems eliminate almost all turbidity and strains out trihalomethane precursor compounds, color, and pathogenic microorganisms. The nanofiltration treatment tests will enable the city of Charlesbourg to attain the following objectives: Verify that drinking water standards are met and exceeded, determine the optimal pretreatment solution, optimize the plans and specifications of the future water treatment plant, provide useful information on the operating strategy of the next treatment plant, and identify liquid waste disposal methods.

With the help of its R&D team, H2O Innovation will provide the city with continuous monitoring and an innovative approach during testing. Meanwhile the company continues to develop its piloting activities for ground, surface and brackish water through partnerships with other municipalities.

The task of validating applicable technical solutions for a future drinking water treatment plant has been awarded to the engineering consulting firm Gcor Inc., which submitted its recommendations to the city on August 9.
