September 17, 2001 — The World Resources Institute has created an online marketplace for trading nutrient credits.

The site (http://www.nutrientnet.org/) provides users with tutorials and FAQs on nutrient trading, as well as tools and worksheets to compute nutrient credits; facilities to post offers to trade, register exchanges, and view completed trades; and discussion boards on various nutrient-trading topics.

The site in currently in demonstration form and being tested with limited "trading day" exercises.

This tool compliments work that WERF has been doing in watershed-based nutrient trading programs, particularly project 97-IRM-5, which profiled watershed-based trading in five different regions.

One of these areas, the Kalamazoo River Basin, will be participating in testing the NutrientNet tool later this year.
