MORGANTOWN, WV, December 17, 2001 — The National Small Flows Clearinghouse (NSFC) announces a new poster, Wastewater Collection and Treatment Systems for Small Communities. This colorful poster focuses strictly on wastewater treatment technologies in small communities.
Constructed wetlands, rotating biological contactors, trickling filters, drip irrigation, and alternative collection systems are a few of the 26 technologies discussed.
One side of the poster illustrates a typical small community, its businesses and residences, and the types of systems that might be used. The flip side contains line drawings and brief descriptions of each system.
The technologies described in the poster are applicable to subdivisions, schools, churches, restaurants, parks, shopping centers, and other small-flow situations. Systems are categorized by collection, effluent dispersal, subsurface dispersal, pretreatment, primary treatment, secondary treatment, advanced/tertiary treatment, disinfection, package plants, sludge treatment/disposal, and general wastewater treatment.
"The Wastewater Collection and Treatment Systems for Small Communities poster is not only filled with useful information-it's fun," said Harriet Emerson, National Environmental Services Center senior editor. "This is a bright, beautiful poster that everyone interested in wastewater issues, from engineers to kids, will enjoy."
Peter Casey, NSFC Program Coordinator added, "It is an excellent quick reference tool for anyone wanting a summary of the technologies available for small communities."
This poster is an easy to understand educational tool for wastewater professionals working with the general public, school children, or others who may not have a technical background. To order, call the NSFC at (800) 624-8301 or (304) 293-4191 and request Item #WWPSPE65. The cost is $1.25 plus shipping. You also may e-mail [email protected].
