Fact sheet discusses funding and wetland protection

MORGANTOWN, WV, October 26, 2001 — A fact sheet titled "Protecting Wetlands with the Clean Water State Revolving Fund" is available from the National Small Flows Clearinghouse (NSFC).

Developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Water, this fact sheet briefly outlines how the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (SRF) works, the various types of funding available (i.e., loans, grants), categories of eligibility, source of repayment, and where to obtain additional information.

Based on the serious threats to wetland resources across the nation, EPA would like to see the SRF become a major source of funding for wetland protection. The 51 Clean Water SRF programs currently issue approximately $3 billion in loans annually. SRF loans are issued at below market rates (0 percent to less than market), offering borrowers significant savings over the life of the loan. This two-page fact sheet may be of interest to local and state officials, planners, managers, finance officers, and the general public.

Funded by the EPA, the NSFC is a nonprofit information and assistance program that helps homeowners and small communities identify appropriate wastewater treatment technologies to meet their needs.
