Kansas City, Mo., Oct. 17, 2001 — Black & Veatch announced today that three members of the global engineering, construction and consulting firm have been elected to leadership positions in the Water Environment Federation (WEF), an international technical, scientific and educational water quality organization with nearly 40,000 members.
At WEFTEC 2001, the Federation's annual technical conference and exposition, James H. Clark, P.E., was elected WEF president 2001-2002; Julian Sandino, Ph.D., P.E., was elected as a WEF director at large; and Matt Bond, P.E., was elected as a director representing the Kansas Water Environment Association (KWEA).
"Black & Veatch professionals have actively supported professional organizations like the Water Environment Federation since our firm's inception 86 years ago," said Black & Veatch Americas Division President James L. Patton. "We're proud of these three individuals and the many others who have shared their leadership skills and technical expertise with organizations dedicated to the advancement of water and wastewater solutions."
Clark, a Black & Veatch vice president based in Los Angeles, manages planning, design and operations for many of the firm's water and wastewater clients in western North America. A 1996 recipient of WEF's prestigious Arthur Sidney Bedell Award, Clark is a 25-year member who served as the organization's vice president in 1999-2000 and president-elect in 2000-2001.
Sandino is a water reclamation practice leader for Black & Veatch. He has actively contributed to WEF activities in Latin America and served as a voice for the member associations in that region. In addition to beginning a three-year term as WEF director at large, Sandino has just become chair of the International Coordination Committee. During his 17 years as a member of WEF, Sandino has also served on the organization's International Program and Technical Practice Committees and Millennium Task Force. In addition to WEF, he is a member of the International Water Association and the Inter-American Association of Sanitary Engineering and Environmental Sciences. Sandino earned a B.S. in civil engineering from Universidad de los Andes (Bogota, Columbia) and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in environmental health engineering from the University of Kansas. He is based in Kansas City, Mo.
Bond, a Black & Veatch project manager providing wastewater planning, design and related services to utilities throughout the Midwest, will represent KWEA on the Federations' Board of Directors for a three-year term. A member of WEF for 16 years, Bond co-chaired the KWEA Biosolids Committee for the past three years, served on KWEA's Long-Range Planning Committee and has also actively participated in the Missouri Water Environment Association. He earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil engineering with an emphasis in environmental engineering from the University of Missouri and is based in the firm's Kansas City, Mo., office.
