RALEIGH, NC, March 3, 2008 -- PBS&J announces its March 1, 2008, acquisition of EcoScience Corporation, a full-service environmental and engineering consulting firm based in Raleigh, North Carolina. EcoScience Corporation specializes in the preparation of ecological assessments and environmental impact statements, endangered species determinations, wetland delineations, soil surveys, permitting, mitigation planning, stream restoration, stormwater master planning, hydrologic and hydraulic engineering, and surface or groundwater modeling.

As a new PBS&J division, EcoScience will enhance PBS&J's service offerings in the East and nationally, according to PBS&J District Director Eugene A. Conti. "We have worked in partnership with EcoScience for a number of years on projects throughout the Carolinas. The capacity of both companies to better serve our current clients' needs and to expand into new markets is substantially increased by bringing us together within the same company," Conti stated.

Established in 1998 in Raleigh, North Carolina, EcoScience has grown to meet the environmental needs of clients beyond its home state. Today, the 20-member company is also serving clients throughout South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, complementing PBS&J's national resume in environmental science and engineering.

EcoScience Corporation's founding president, Jerry McCrain, Ph.D., CEP, will lead the new PBS&J division as Senior Project Director. Sandy Smith, Group Manager, will be responsible for the division's daily operations. "We are very pleased to be part of the PBS&J team," stated Dr. McCrain. "We believe the synergy of our blended disciplines will provide value-added opportunities for our company and for our clients."

EcoScience Corporation joins the PBS&J family with a highly trained staff that is affiliated with numerous professional organizations, including the Society of Soil Scientists, the National and North Carolina Associations of Environmental Professionals, the Academy of Board Certified Environmental Professionals, the Society of Wetland Scientists, the Association of State Floodplain Managers, the Sigma Xi academic fraternity, and the Association of State Highway Engineers.

The company's diverse portfolio of projects includes the development of wetland and stream functional assessment methodologies, funded by the North Carolina Department of Transportation and to be used statewide for resource impacts and mitigation planning. It has been the environmental consultant of record for the North Carolina Global TransPark in Kinston and has spearheaded an $11-million mitigation program for the TransPark. The company also has been the general environmental consultant for the North Carolina Turnpike Authority and is the environmental lead on the Southern Evacuation LifeLine (SELL) Environmental Impact Statement in South Carolina, a project sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

With the acquisition of EcoScience, PBS&J has 150 employees located in the North Carolina cities of Raleigh, Charlotte, and Lenoir.

PBS&J is an employee-owned company that provides infrastructure planning, engineering, construction management, architecture, and program management services to public and private clients.
