• Thirty-eight members and 74 million acres in 47 states strengthen advocacy leadership

WASHINGTON, DC, Dec. 1, 2008 -- The National Alliance of Forest Owners (NAFO) announced at its first Annual Meeting on November 14 that membership has grown to 38 members representing 74 million acres in 47 states. Membership has increased significantly from the 14 members and 28 million acres in 29 states represented by NAFO at its kick-off event in Washington, D.C., on June 18 of this year.

"This significant growth in membership is a product of NAFO's focus on issues that matter most to both forest owners and our nation," said NAFO President and CEO, Dave Tenny. "NAFO has positioned itself to play a leading role in renewable energy and climate change, and forest owners around the country are aligning behind these priorities."

NAFO's Board of Directors adopted an agenda for 2009 focused on the role of private forests in providing new sources of renewable energy and mitigating climate change. The agenda also calls for environmental and tax policies that help private forests address these and other national priorities.

"Private forests are a fundamental source of domestic renewable energy and are essential to reducing carbon in the atmosphere," Tenny said. "National policies should seek to unlock the full potential of these forests to make the contributions they are capable of making."

The National Alliance of Forest Owners (NAFO) is a growing alliance of private forest owners, managers and organizations dedicated to promoting legislative and market policies that will protect and enhance the economic and environmental value of privately owned forests across the country.
