LEEDS, UK, May 9, 2008 -- United Utilities plc, the UK's largest operator of water and wastewater networks, has chosen the latest web-based satellite tracking solution from Masternaut Three X for monitoring the productivity of its tanker fleet. Operating throughout the north west of England, United Utilities plc management can view tanker movements in real time via any web-enabled PC. They can also access historic Gantt charts that clearly illustrate how productive each vehicle is at any given time. The Masternaut Three X service also supports the organisation's Health & Safety measures by monitoring drivers wherever they are, even in the remotest locations.
United Utilities has implemented the Masternaut service for 70 of its sludge tankers -- both rigid and articulated vehicles -- with the enhanced functionality of driver ID keys. This not only allows the organisation to monitor vehicles, the management team also knows precisely who is driving the vehicle via the driver ID from the moment the vehicle is brought on shift to the time it returns to its base and the driver arrives home safely.
"Masternaut is proving to be excellent for our application. Not only do we gain real-time tracking of vehicles and drivers, we can also see how productive each vehicle has been by reviewing the Gantt charts generated by the system. These provide full historic details of each vehicle's usage," says Adrian Roberts, District Manager, Lancashire Area, Environmental Services, United Utilities plc.
United Utilities plc can also rely on Masternaut to help make management decisions should an incident occur such as a spillage. Masternaut assists by giving a full view of the fleet, enabling the management to send the nearest most appropriate vehicle to deal with the incident. This ensures that the incident is dealt with swiftly and effectively using the correct equipment.
"The real-time functionality of the system also comes into play should we have an incident requiring immediate attention. By viewing the fleet on line, we can direct the most suitable vehicle to the site of the incident so that it is dealt with efficiently and effectively. This is extremely important because some sites have width and weight restrictions and they may also require specific pumping equipment. With Masternaut we know we can get the right vehicle to the site quickly," concludes Adrian Roberts.
