Safe Drinking Water Act wall chart now available

• Updated information on groundwater, lead and copper rules are among new features

OMAHA, NE, Feb. 25, 2008 -- Updated and revised rules, along with secondary standards designed to address aesthetic properties of drinking water, are all part of the 12th edition of HDR's Safe Drinking Water Act wall chart.

HDR has distributed more than one million of the poster-sized charts to water utilities, schools and professionals around the world since introducing it in1992. The chart provides an easy-to-use reference to all drinking water regulations including a detailed listing of contaminants and maximum contaminant levels, health effects and monitoring requirements.

The latest edition includes updated information on the new Groundwater Rule, as well as revisions to the Lead and Copper Rule. Also added were the National Secondary Drinking Water Standards that address the aesthetic properties of drinking water. While not federally enforceable, these standards often are referenced in addressing aesthetic effects such as appearance, taste and staining -- all topics of high interest and concern to the consuming public.

Viewers can click on a contaminant to see maximum contaminant levels, health effects, monitoring requirements and schedules. Current and previous editions of the SDWA Newsletter also are available at this site, and visitors can subscribe online as well.

Sarah Clark, P.E., of HDR's Denver office edits both the chart and the quarterly SDWA Newsletter. Clark serves as chair of the American Water Works Association's Water Treatment Plant Standard committee and serves on five other AWWA committees. She also is a member of the Colorado Water Utility Council.
