ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL, Aug. 3, 2010 -- Lime Energy announced that it has been awarded a contract to provide energy efficiency and water conservation solutions for Johnson Controls at 31 fire department facilities in Baltimore, Maryland. Under the contract, Lime Energy will provide energy efficiency and innovative water saving solutions. At three of the stations, the company will install solar thermal water heaters to provide hot water for sinks, showers and kitchen use. In addition to water saving toilets, sinks, and showers in all facilities, Lime will install innovative new water filtration that provides clean drinking water that reduces the need for monthly or weekly service at 15 stations. At one of the stations, Lime Energy will design and construct a rainwater filtration and storage system that will offset the use of potable water for washing fire trucks.
"This project is a good example of how a municipal facility such as a fire station can reduce water usage and cost," said Jim Smith, President of Lime Energy Public Sector division. "Projects like this typically reduce water usage by 20 to 25 percent, resulting in conservation of water resources as well as reductions in utility bills for the water itself, water heating and sewage costs. We are pleased to continue our ten- year relationship with Johnson Controls in providing these important conservation measures."
