WATERFORD, Ireland, Nov. 12, 2007 -- Global environmental contractor FLI International, with head offices in Waterford, Ireland, has announced the acquisition of English water and wastewater treatment specialists Brightwater Engineering Ltd and Brightwater Products & Services. The deal, which also includes the subsidiary company Biobead Ltd, is set to further strengthen FLI's water sector business.

Announcing the move from the Group's Waterford, Ireland HQ, FLI Group CEO Michael Flynn said, "Brightwater's unique technologies coupled with its technical and process capabilities reinforce the FLI Group's position in providing environmental and wastewater solutions for the global market. Our customers will now have access to Brightwater's universally accepted processes which will be fully supported through our growing network of European offices."

Brightwater, based in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, UK, has some thirty years experience in the design, manufacture and installation of wastewater treatment plants for the UK municipal market and is a leading supplier of biological activated flooded filtration (BAFF) technology, having provided over 80% of the UK's installed plants.

The company's advanced HSAF Submerged Aerated Filtration technology has enjoyed particular success thanks in part to its exceptionally low power consumption and small environmental footprint. Brightwater have also pioneered the use of filter media manufactured from recycled plastic and their Biobead and BMax filter media provide flexible, small footprint, solutions for wastewater treatment in municipal, industrial and commercial applications, treating loads from 50-500,000 pe.

HSAF in its various process forms is particularly successful as a solids, BOD and ammonia removal product that effectively ensures consent compliance. The company's package plants have recently been supplied to many UK water companies either as a permanent or hire solution, where they have often prevented works failures and avoided the risk of prosecution.

Brightwater (www.brightwaterfli.com) sees a strong export market for municipal applications of their wastewater treatment solutions and believe that their environment friendly technology will also be in particular demand in industries such as food and beverage. The company will licence previous owner Bord na Móna Environmental to supply its HSAF and Membright MBR products through Bord na Móna USA to municipal markets in Canada, North America, Mexico and the Caribbean.
