DWR releases Draft EIR for Monterey Amendment
SACRAMENTO, CA, Oct. 22, 2007 -- California's Department of Water Resources (DWR) has released the Draft Environmental Impact Report (Draft EIR) for the Monterey Amendment to the State Water Project Contracts, including the Kern Water Bank Transfer and associated actions as part of a Settlement Agreement (Monterey Plus).
The complete document, with its many chapters and appendices, is available for viewing on DWR's Division of Environmental Services Web page.
This Draft EIR addresses the environmental impacts of changes to the State Water Project (SWP) operations that are a consequence of the Monterey Amendment and the Settlement Agreement.
It also discusses the project alternatives, growth inducement, water supply reliability, as well as potential areas of controversy and concern.
To date, meetings have been scheduled in three California cities to allow public comment on the Draft EIR.

The Department of Water Resources operates and maintains the State Water Project, provides dam safety and flood control and inspection services, assists local water districts in water management and water conservation planning, and plans for future statewide water needs.
