Sept. 27, 2007 -- Two major Southern Water contracts have used digital actuation technology supplied by AUMA. The orders totaling just under 100 Profibus actuators have been secured for Wastewater Treatment Works at Budds Farm and Peel Common.
Confirming that the contracts reflect a wider migration by the water industry to intelligent actuation solutions, Ian Sully, UK Managing Director for AUMA said:
"New generation field bus systems significantly reduce the number of cables required on site and substantially increase the capacity for data feedback. Profibus, which has been adopted at Southern Water's Budds Farm and Peel Common sites, is the most popular choice for WwTW's. The popularity of Profibus is due to the fact that this is a particularly user-friendly 'bus' protocol that controls a comprehensive range of field devices."
A key product feature of AUMA's Profibus actuator solutions is modular design with the ability to disconnect both bus line and power supply in a single plug arrangement without disturbing other devices downstream of the bus connection.
Actuators installed at Budds Farm/Peel Common were supplied by AUMA subcontracted to Black and Veatch Ltd working as sub contractors to 4Delivery Ltd. 4D is a consortium comprising United Utilities, Costain and MWH which is implementing £750 million worth of environmental improvement and water quality schemes for Southern Water across Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight between 2005 and 2010.
