DHV consortium wins Caspian Sea water management project

AMERSFOORT, The Netherlands, Feb. 1, 2007 -- An international consortium led by DHV reported yesterday it has won the EuropeAid (European Commission) tender for the "Caspian Water Quality Monitoring and Action Plan for Areas of Pollution Concern". The project's overall objective is to improve the quality of the Caspian Sea's marine and coastal environment.

The project focuses on the declining water and sediment quality of the Caspian Sea and a number of so-called "Areas of Pollution Concern" in four countries surrounding the Caspian Sea: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan. These pollution hot spots include among others oil and gas drilling locations and pipelines, sites with poorly stored hazardous industrial waste, polluted rivers and sea water, and polluted soils and land degradation.

The DHV-led consortium includes: COWI (Denmark), ECORYS and WL Delft Hydraulics (Netherlands). Contract's term is 2½ years and it is valued at EUR 1.3 million.

This is the second EuropeAid water management project DHV has won over the last few months: earlier a DHV-led consortium secured the EU-China River Basin Management Programme with a contract term of 5 years and contract value of EUR 13.9 million.
