NIAGARA FALLS, NY, AUG 15, 2017 -- The public agency responsible for discharging black, smelly water below Niagara Falls says it's hired an engineering firm to evaluate the incident, according to the Seattle Times.
In a statement released this week, the Niagara Falls Water Board said it has hired AECOM to analyze details leading to the July 29 discharge of black water from its wastewater plant. The agency maintains that the discharge was part of "routine" maintenance and should be no cause for concern.
State officials are currently investigating the events, while Niagara County lawmakers are pursuing a criminal investigation.
