NORRISTOWN, PA, Sept. 7, 2004 (PRNewswire) -- Organica Biotech, an organic cleaning and gardening solutions company based in Norristown, Pa., announces the company is contracted with the Philadelphia Water Department to test its product on the City of Philadelphia's notable stench.

Partnering with Villanova University and funded in part by Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania in a project to start this month, Organica Biotech aspires to rid the City of Brotherly Love of its negative olfactory image by employing a novel biosystem approach to stimulate biodegradation and reduce odorous gases.

Organica Biotech creates products that use safe, naturally occurring, beneficial biocatalysts to purify and enhance homes, gardens and the environment. The company will integrate its biosystem into an "enhanced digester" at the Philadelphia Water Department's Biosolids Recycling Center, enabling Organica's signature, positive microbial biocatalysts to battle invisible culprits that are responsible for some of the city's unpleasant smells.

"Organic treatment is an emerging trend in municipal waste management," explains Eric Hill, CEO of Organica Biotech, a company that devoted 10 years to research and development around the issue. "Organica is honored to evaluate and assist in cleaning up this issue for the Philadelphia Water Department."

Organica Biotech and Villanova University's Civil & Environmental Engineering Department will evaluate the effects of natural biological enhancers at the Philadelphia Water Department's Biosolids Recycling Center, near the Philadelphia International Airport. The company expects the enhanced digester will reduce the amount of odorous gases and pathogens in the biosolids.
