MANALAPAN, NJ, Dec. 6, 2004 -- Schoor DePalma, the region's leading engineering and consulting firm, has been hired by the Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) for professional consultation services in conjunction with the review and enhancement of its health and safety program.

For the project, Schoor DePalma will review and update PVWC's existing health and safety programs as well as identify new programs that should be developed to improve processes at the commission. PVWC is expected to realize significant cost savings through the consultant's recommendations as the report will address the maximum utilization of PVWC staff that support health and safety and site security, efficient use of time to manage programs, and effective data storage and retrieval for audits and reviews by outside regulatory agencies.

Schoor DePalma's work will enhance the health and safety procedures at all facilities that are currently owned, operated, and maintained by the PVWC. On the project, a Certified Industrial Hygienist from the consultant will perform health and safety audits, inspections, and testing at each site.

The list of programs that will be reviewed include: Facility-wide Incident Response Plans; OSHA HAZWOPER emergency response and Hazard Communication; confined space entry; respiratory and personal protective equipment; laboratory chemical hygiene plan; welding, cutting, and brazing permits; lock out/tag out; asbestos management; and hearing conservation.

Anthony Damato is Schoor DePalma's project manager for the effort. The firm's recommendations for new programs will also take into consideration the anticipated staff training requirements of the PVWC. The company will provide PVWC with an appropriate management tool to track the progress of the Health and Safety Program and produce routine status reports.
