Global firm to spearhead planning for new drinking water treatment facility in Grants Pass.

GRANTS PASS, OR, JULY 11, 2018 -- Stantec, a global engineering, consulting, and construction firm, is proud to announce that it is serving as Owner Representative for a comprehensive design and construction project to assist the City of Grants Pass, Ore., in delivering high-quality drinking water. Stantec's role will be to assist the City over the next four to five years in determining the capacity, technology, location and delivery method for a new water treatment plant to serve the community's 38,000 plus people.

The existing Grants Pass Water Treatment Plant has faithfully served Grants Pass residents for the past 87 years, sourcing water directly from the nearby Rogue River. However, the plant, built in 1931, requires significant infrastructure improvements and no longer meets current building codes and seismic requirements. In the event of an earthquake, it is highly likely the plant would be damaged and would no longer be able to treat and supply safe drinking water. Stantec will work closely with the City to help shepherd a new water treatment plant through to completion, while ensuring there is no interruption of the distribution of clean drinking water to residents in the interim.

Serving as the Owner's Agent, Stantec will advise on a project delivery method that matches the city's commitment to serving the local community, offer fresh expert opinions on the selection of plant technology, assist with site evaluation and selection process, oversee the project cost, and offer construction management and operations oversight. Stantec has supported the City's water treatment optimization and improvements, master planning, and facility planning for the past 13 years.

"For more than a decade we've been working closely with the City of Grants Pass to ensure the delivery of high-quality and safe drinking water to its more than 38,000 residents," said Dick Talley, Stantec Vice President, Water, based in Portland. "We look forward to building on this solid relationship and continuing to collaborate with the City to offer expertise and guidance to ensure the public service interests of the local community are not only met but exceeded."

Stantec is providing environmental and permitting, engineering and design, construction management, project management, cost estimating, QA/QC, and geotechnical services on the project. Stantec's Portland office is leading the project with collaboration from its Bend and Grants Pass, Ore., and Bellevue, Wash., offices.

"We have enjoyed a wonderful partnership with Stantec and look forward to continuing to work together closely as we move forward with this exciting water treatment replacement project," said Jason Canady, Public Works Director for Grants Pass.

Stantec is a member of both the Water Design Build Council and the Design Build Institute of America. The global firm was the first to introduce alternative project delivery (APD) to the municipal market in the Pacific Northwest during the 1990s and remains a leader in APD for water and wastewater infrastructure projects. In the Pacific Northwest alone, Stantec has delivered more than $430 million of APD projects in the past 15 years, including $150 million in Oregon.

The project is expected to be completed by late 2023.
