WATERBURY, CT, Jan. 27, 2004 -- Quebec City has selected Haestad Methods' French versions of WaterCAD® and the Darwin® Calibrator and Designer modules to support the redevelopment and management of the city's newly configured water supply system.

As a result of municipal mergers in 2002, the largely transformed infrastructure of Quebec City now encompasses 13 former municipalities and one urban community. The new city, with an area of 554 km2 (240 square miles) and over 2,500 km (1,500 miles) of pipes, now needs to meet the drinking water requirements of its 513,000 residents.

To improve development planning, optimize the distribution of drinking water, and better understand how its water supply system functions throughout this region, the engineering department (Service de l'ingenierie) of Quebec City selected WaterCAD and its optimization modules to produce a model of the water supply system.

"The WaterCAD model will become the primary tool for analyzing the general framework of the water supply system and the possibilities for interconnecting the various sectors of Quebec City," said Patrice Dumas, Senior Engineer for Quebec City.

The city's engineering department will be using WaterCAD to evaluate residual chlorine levels at different locations in the system, analyze residence times, perform source tracing, analyze the system's vulnerability, and estimate the cost of proposed recommendations, among other applications. Dumas added, "We also selected WaterCAD because of its calibration and design functionality, its data management capabilities, and its user-friendly interface."

Haestad Methods offers other services to its French Canadian client base, including localized training and bilingual (French and English) technical support. "We are growing rapidly in this region and have invested substantially to provide our Canadian clients with customized solutions," said Perrine Parrod, Manager of Canadian Sales for Haestad Methods. "Through these initiatives, Haestad Methods continues to demonstrate its commitment to its international clients."
