WEST VIRGINIA -- West Virginia American Water, a subsidiary of American Water, has signed an agreement to acquire the Town of East Bank’s water system for undisclosed amount.

The Town of East Bank serves around 395 customers along Rt. 61 in Kanawha County.

The town’s water system requires infrastructure upgrades, and has been experiencing around 60% water loss through leaks.

West Virginia American Water will set up an interconnection between the company’s water lines in Kanawha County and the town’s water system.

Under the agreement, West Virginia American Water will invest in the town’s water distribution system to cut down leakage.

Following completion of the deal, the company will own and operate the water lines as part of its Kanawha Valley water system, and will commence replacing aging infrastructure and installing new water metres.

The proposed deal needs the approval of the Public Service Commission.
