ANN ARBOR, MI, Nov. 17, 2011 -- As part of NSF International's new Passport Program,™ designed to help manufacturers obtain global market approvals for plumbing and water treatment products, manufacturers can now obtain certification and testing for the Australian WaterMark.

NSF International earned accreditation from JAS-ANZ (Joint Accreditation System for Australia and New Zealand) to issue the Australian WaterMark, required on plumbing and water treatment products sold in those countries. With this approval, NSF now adds more countries to the recently launched NSF Passport Program: Your Access to Global Market Approvals™.

As a result of this new accreditation, NSF International certifies plumbing and water treatment products to the Australian WaterMark Certification Scheme. The WaterMark certification includes material safety and performance testing as well as an audit of the manufacturing facility(s).

Approval to issue the Australian WaterMark is part of the new NSF Passport Program, which helps companies obtain global market approvals for products in contact with drinking water such as faucets, pipes, flexible connectors, mechanical fittings and drinking water treatment products. Plumbing and drinking water manufacturers can now obtain testing and certification from NSF International that meets both NSF and WaterMark certification requirements simultaneously.

In addition, manufacturers seeking compliance in other countries can obtain multiple certifications from NSF International as part of a complete suite of global testing and certification services. A sampling of other approvals by NSF includes but is not limited to: the United Kingdom, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Malaysia.

"With over 50 years of experience testing and certifying water products, NSF International is the only approved WaterMark certifier with the scientific expertise and capacity to provide all testing, auditing and product certification services," said Laura Moorman, Manager of the NSF Passport Program. "In addition to providing a single point of contact to manage all certifications, manufacturers can save time and cost undergoing multiple certifications simultaneously."

"Manufacturers of water treatment, distribution and plumbing products must meet multiple rigid and complex regulatory requirements to sell and compete in major markets, and these requirements can vary between countries and certification types," said Pierre Sbabo, Vice President of NSF International Water Programs. "The NSF Passport Program™ helps manufacturers access top and key emerging markets for water products, and customers can work with a local NSF International project manager, in their local language and time zone, through NSF's global network of offices."
