DEWA, a government corporation, was formed on January 1, 1992, to take over and merge the independently operating Dubai Electric Company and Dubai Water Department. Today, DEWA employs a workforce of about 7,700 employees and is the sole supplier of electricity and water to the Emirate of Dubai. It operates and maintains some 880 km of water transmission mains ranging from 900 mm to 1,200 mm, and has a combined reservoir capacity of 300 MIG.
