SAN DIEGO, CA, June 13, 2009 -- 3M announces today that the company's newest member of its corrosion protection family -- 3M™ Scotchkote™ Spray In Place Pipe 269 Coating -- received NSF/ANSI Standard 61 certification from the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF). This important certification means 3M Scotchkote Spray In Place Pipe 269 coating meets the rigid standards required for products used in drinking water system components U.S. water infrastructure. This includes protecting against leaching or migrating of contaminants into the drinking water supply.

"We are pleased that NSF approved 3M Scotchkote coating for meeting ANSI regulations," said Gary Natwig, marketing development manager for 3M Water Market. "Our product now offers utilities and municipalities an economic, sustainable alternative to traditional water infrastructure rehabilitation methods in their areas."

The Scotchkote™ pipe coating allows for the possibility of rapid, same-day return to water service to urban and suburban neighborhoods where pipelines are being coated to protect against corrosion. The coating remedies pipe corrosion, restores pipe width and enhances water flow using a proprietary chemistry and trenchless application process that provides corrosion protection for years to come. The product requires just a one hour cure time, minimizing disruption in water service. Because application involves a trenchless technology process, 3M™ Scotchkote™ Spray In Place Pipe 269 Coating is a sustainable, cost-effective renewal option.

A recognized leader in research and development, 3M produces thousands of innovative products for dozens of diverse markets.
