LACEY, WA, Jan. 8, 2010 -- Engineered Software Inc. today announced their support of Houston Community College System (HCCS) and Society of Piping Engineers and Designers' (SPED) new Green Piping Design training program, providing a grant worth $25,000 for use of their flagship PIPE-FLO® software program. "Green Piping" refers to the designing of pipe networks to minimize, in part, their energy costs. In this new training program, Engineered Software's PIPE FLO software will be used by piping designers to assess various design alternatives to select pipe sizes and routes that save energy and operational costs.

The training is a new Green Process Piper Program at HCCS, in cooperation with the SPED, targeting unemployed and displaced piping designers. Although usually analyzed by engineers, the availability of low cost tools means technicians can now perform much of the same work.

"With powerful analysis tools such as PIPE FLO," says Ray Hardee, P.E., CEO and Chief Engineer at Engineered Software Inc., "piping designers can analyze the total piping networks as they are laid out in the plant, and simulate possible changes or modifications to the system. This almost always leads to savings in operational design and an increase in total piping system efficiency."

SPED is working with HCCS on the Green Process Piper Program. The program is funded by the US American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 administered by the Houston-Galveston Area Council. The program will train lower level piping designers on the now essential skills of assessing piping systems for energy consumption and all around system efficiency.

"This is a new, more advanced level of skill we are giving these pipers," said William G. Beazley, SPED Executive Director. "Signs of increasing demand for efficiency in process and power plants are everywhere. The best prepared will be the first hired, when spending surges."

PIPE FLO is a leading engineering tool for analyzing flow and sizing of pipe and pump in fluid flow networks. These networks are found in process, municipal and power plants.
