DENVER, Oct. 26, 2007 -- CH2M Hill, a global full-service engineering, construction and operations firm, has been selected as the lead consultant by the City of Bend, Ore. for its Southeast Interceptor project.

After completing a wastewater collection system master plan, the City identified the Southeast Interceptor as the highest priority for its capital improvement implementation plan. The CH2M Hill team will be responsible for analyzing routing alternatives for a pipeline that will serve the existing sewer system for southeast Bend, completing conceptual designs and recommending an alternative.

"This project will help alleviate existing deficiencies in the city's downtown core sewer system, and will allow for additional growth and infill in the southeast and east part of Bend," said Brady Fuller, CH2M Hill assistant project manager. "This project will set the standard for delivery of the rest of Bend's collection system capital improvement programs. Bend has experienced unprecedented growth and is using effective tools for responding to its infrastructure planning, design and funding needs."

Using a formal alternative evaluation criteria scoring methodology combined with output from genetic algorithm optimization routine, CH2M Hill will be able to identify the pipeline route that meets project goals and provides an optimized life-cycle cost.

Additionally, CH2M Hill will help the City standardize project tools and approaches that will be used on the implementation of this project and other public works projects. These tools will guide the City's project management and budgeting decisions for the next decade.

CH2M Hill is leading the consulting team of Otak, Crane, and Merseth and Optimatics. Conceptual design will be completed by February 2008 with final design completed later that year.

Headquartered in Denver, Colo., employee-owned CH2M Hill is a global leader in engineering, construction and operations for public and private clients. The firm's work is concentrated in the areas of transportation, water, energy, environment and industrial facilities.
