Illinois American Water completes over $500,000 in water tank improvements in Fisher

Community landmark plays a vital role in water service and community pride.

FISHER, IL, MAY 2, 2019 -- Illinois American Water has completed rehabilitating the 100,000 gallon water storage tank located on Jackson Street in Fisher. The investment of approximately $500,000 helps to extend the life of the storage tank, ensuring adequate water supply and water pressure for drinking water and fire protection.

As a part of this project, critical maintenance was performed on the tank. Painting of the interior and exterior was also completed. The tank, which was originally constructed in 1973, will be placed back in service this week.

According to Brian Wiemers, production superintendent for Illinois American Water's Champaign County service area, the fresh coat of paint on the Fisher water tank protects it from the elements while highlighting community pride. He said, "The Village of Fisher is a vibrant community. We're proud to be a part of Fisher and to feature the unique Fisher Bunnie as well as the Illinois American Water logo on the water tank. It will serve as a beautiful landmark for residents and visitors for years to come."

Placing the tank back in service will not impact water service. The quality of the water will not be affected and will continue to meet all federal and state water quality regulations.
