CHICAGO, Nov. 15, 2005 -- The North American Steel Construction Conference, the premier education event for those involved in the design or construction of structural steel buildings, is scheduled for Feb. 8-11 in San Antonio, Texas.
This annual event provides structural engineers, fabricators, erectors, and detailers with practical information and the latest design and construction techniques. In addition, the Steel Conference offers an extensive trade show, featuring products and services ranging from fabrication machinery, galvanizing, and connection products to detailing and engineering software. It's a once-a-year opportunity for the more than 2,300 attendees to learn the latest techniques, see the most innovative products, and network with their peers and clients.
The conference offers more than 60 technical sessions ranging from improving detailing business practices to innovative steel design systems to practical information on serviceability design considerations. Some sessions focus on technical engineering issues (such as HSS connection design after 2005), while other focus on fabrication (the economics and practicality of bar coding), erection (erection crisis management), or detailing (detailing considerations for erection). Attendees can earn up to 26 professional development hours. New this year is a special seismic track. The Conference also offers pre- and post-conference short courses on: interoperability (BIMs); beam bracing; contract termination; and AISC's new Steel Construction Manual. Finally, prior to the Conference this year there will be a symposium on "Purging Extras".
This year's keynote speaker is Gene Kranz. As the leader of the "Tiger Team" of NASA flight directors who brought the Apollo 13 spaceship back to Earth, Kranz has a unique insight about success. His book, "Failure is not an Option: Mission Control from Mercury to Apollo 13 and Beyond" was the basis of a documentary for the History Channel.
