Improvements to WSSC's Potomac Water Filtration Plant to begin

PBS&J has been selected to develop the improvements necessary to enhance water quality, increase process reliability, and expand the capacity of the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission's (WSSC's) Potomac Water Filtration Plant to 280 million gallons per day.

Beltsville, MD, Feb. 10, 2003 -- PBS&J has been selected to develop the improvements necessary to enhance water quality, increase process reliability, and expand the capacity of the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission's (WSSC's) Potomac Water Filtration Plant to 280 million gallons per day.

According to PBS&J Senior Vice President Donald R. Vogt, P.E., improvements will include new ultraviolet disinfection facilities, an improved pretreatment facility, an intermediate pumping station, and a variety of electrical system enhancements. Total construction costs for the improvements are expected to be approximately $70 million.

The Potomac Water Filtration Plan provides drinking water for more than 1 million people in Montgomery and Prince George's counties, Maryland. PBS&J will provide the services for this office from its Beltsville, Maryland, office.
