• California's Corona del Mar Water Treatment Plant recognized as outstanding project
BROOMFIELD, CO, Nov. 4, 2008 -- MWH, a global provider of environmental engineering, construction and strategic consulting services, has won the 2008 CMAA (Construction Management Association of America) Project Achievement award for the Corona del Mar Water Treatment Phase 2 Upgrades & Modifications Design-Build Project in the category of Infrastructure Project, Less Than $50 Million.
This $22.7M design-build project encompassed upgrades and modifications to a 35-year-old, 36-mgd water treatment plant. The project encompassed 13,200 square feet of vertical construction for design-build upgrades and modifications to an existing water treatment plant. The design successfully adhered to the strict building codes of a high seismic zone 4 location and is in the process of achieving LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification for its sustainable construction components.
CMAA presented MWH Constructors, a service offering within MWH, with the award during the CMAA 2008 Industry Recognition Dinner in San Francisco on October 14th. Gary McFarland, PE, Engineering Manager for Goleta Water District; Larry Johnson, PE, Project Manager; and Glenn Barin, PE, Construction Manager, accepted the award on behalf of MWH Constructors.
Gary McFarland praised MWH, stating "We were confident from the time we selected [MWH] and it proved to be the right choice -- it just worked out very well."
Since 1999, CMAA has been presenting its Project Achievement Awards to recognize instances in which professional construction or program management has made a significant contribution to the successful completion of a challenging project or program. Owners and other professional construction managers evaluated and judged the project submittals based on merits such as outcomes, overall management, safety, quality management, cost management, schedule management, complexity, innovation, creativity and customer satisfaction.
