KINGSTON, Jamaica, March 10, 2010 -- The National Water Commission (NWC) has awarded a €51 million contract to VINCI Construction Grands Projets to upgrade drinking water supply and treatment for the town of Kingston.
The work will involve laying 19 km of pipes and upgrading two water treatment stations.
WMI, subsidiary of VINCI Construction Grands Projets, will be responsible for optimising management of the network and the works will start early April 2010 and will last 24 months. They will be followed by a second phase, which will be awarded before the summer of 2010.
The contract signing follows the group having constructed numerous facilities in Jamaica, including a drinking water treatment plant in Logwood.
The group also rehabilitated and laid new pipes for the water treatment stations of Great River and Martha Brae, optimised network yield on the NWP (North Western Parishes) project and rehabilitated wells and reservoirs in the framework of the KMA (Kingston Metropolitan Area) project.
