KANSAS CITY, MO, July 24, 2007 -- Professionals from the global water business of Black & Veatch, a leading engineering, consulting and construction company, will again be strongly represented at the annual World Congress on Ozone and Ultraviolet Technologies, scheduled for August 27-29 in Hollywood, Calif.

Black & Veatch professionals authored or co-authored 13 papers that will be presented at the 2007 World Congress, sponsored by the International Ozone Association (IOA) and the International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA). More than 500 people representing 28 countries are expected to attend this year.

"Black & Veatch has a long history of support with the IOA and IUVA," said Jeff Neemann, a Black & Veatch professional who serves on the current IOA Pan-American Group as chairperson and secretary on the IOA international board. "As in the past, we're highly involved this year in the planning aspects as well as through sponsorship, attendance and in participation in the technical program."

Neemann will moderate three sessions - Large UV Systems; Ozone and AOT System Design I; and Ozone and AOT System Design II - during the event. Representing Black & Veatch as scheduled speakers are Nick Burns, Dave Cover, Jessica Edwards-Brandt, Gary Hunter, Bryan Townsend, Steve Simpson and Heather Landis. Landis also will be nominated at the meeting to serve on the IUVA board.

Black & Veatch's West Valley Water's Roemer Water Treatment Plant (WTP) project is planned as a stop on one of the event's technical tours. The Roemer WTP is one of the first UV disinfection projects of its kind to be in operation in southern California.

Black & Veatch also is a co-sponsor of the World Congress banquet to be held on the evening of Aug. 29.

Black & Veatch's involvement can be traced to the 1980s when Bruce Long chaired the World Congress Organizing Committees for both the San Francisco and Las Vegas events. Long and Black & Veatch's Bob Hulsey are past chairmen of the Pan-American Group, and Hulsey has also served as president of the IUVA.

"Events such as the IOA/IUVA World Congress mean a great deal to our company," said Dan McCarthy, President and CEO of Black & Veatch's global water business. "We take a tremendous amount of pride in our involvement at these events where global experts are brought together to exchange information and discuss technological applications and advances."

The 2007 meeting marks the first-ever Joint World Congress as the International Ozone Association (IOA) and the International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA). The experts on hand discuss the latest information on research, recent drinking water regulatory changes and practical applications in the field of ozone and UV technologies. Held at the Hyatt Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, the 2007 Joint World Congress combines the Fourth International Congress on Ultraviolet Technologies and the 18th World Ozone Congress.
