MILPITAS, CA, Dec. 7, 2004 (PRNewswire) -- ServGate Technologies, a provider of integrated, adaptive network security platforms, has been selected by Western Summit to secure the water and wastewater construction specialist's nationwide network, encompassing about 1,000 employees throughout its Denver headquarters and divisional offices in Atlanta, San Diego and Houston.

Western Summit specializes in designing and constructing municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment facilities and water storage facilities. In 1993, Western Summit joined TIC Holdings Inc. as a wholly owned subsidiary, allowing mutual benefits from its association while still functioning independently. Subsequently, Western Summit has become one of the nation's largest private contractors within its industry and is consistently ranked among Engineering News Record's Top 20 Water and Wastewater Contractors.

In line with the company's expansion, Western Summit has enjoyed double-digit revenue growth annually for the past five years. One byproduct of Western Summit's rapid growth curve has been an accelerated obsolescence of its information technology (IT) infrastructure. As IT director Scott Cardenas set out to upgrade Western Summit's hub-and-spoke network topology with a scalable, multi-tiered security solution capable of blocking blended threats -- including spam, viruses and spyware -- that could also easily scale with the company's consistent growth.

ServGate's adaptive security devices exceeded each of Cardenas' expectations. As a result, Western Summit purchased its full suite of security applications -- consisting of virus scanning by McAfee, web filtering by SurfControl and spam filtering by McAfee -- all running on multiple ServGate platforms. The company is now securing all inbound/outbound email and web traffic for Western Summit's corporate headquarters, regional offices and its 15 on-site construction locations.

Cardenas is also running ServGate Global Manager (SGM), which enables him to remotely monitor and manage the security status at each office location. The ease-of-use and management efficiency of the SGM application has contributed to Cardenas' satisfaction in the streamlined, integrated solutions.

"ServGate rose above the myriad of other security vendors due to its unbeatable performance and scalability, plus the fact that only ServGate truly embeds industry-leading security applications onto its hardware-accelerated, dedicated platforms," said Cardenas. "The flexibility and reliability of this impressive security solution positions ServGate as a long-term 'vendor of choice' for Western Summit."

ServGate is the developer of the award-winning adaptive security system, the EdgeForce® platform, offering spam and virus screening applications by McAfee in addition to web filtering by SurfControl, intrusion prevention, web caching, firewall and virtual private network (VPN) services. These platforms also uniquely perform Full Context Inspection, which provides the deepest level of blended protection possible in a security device by reconstructing data packets into a discernible format while performing content filtering services such as virus and spam screening at the application layer. Their modular architecture enables new services modules and performance upgrades to be activated on all EdgeForce systems, scaling with the growth of the customer's business and network needs, and adapting to the shifting threat environment.

About ServGate
ServGate (www.servgate.com) is a provider of integrated, adaptive network security platforms for small- and medium-sized businesses and their distributed enterprises. Its EdgeForce systems, winner of PC Magazine's Editors Choice award for security appliances, consolidate in a single hardware platform multiple security services -- including virus, spam and URL filtering, intrusion prevention, web caching, firewall, VPN and more -- in a modular and scalable format, reducing the cost and complexity associated with sourcing, implementing and maintaining disparate security applications from multiple vendors. ServGate's Full Context Inspection technology analyzes and screens entire components of network traffic in their complete, proper context. The company's corporate headquarters are located in Milpitas, Calif., with regional offices worldwide.
