ENGLEWOOD, CO, Oct. 11, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Competing against the nation's best and brightest wastewater operators, a team from (OMI) took top honors in the 17th Annual Water Environment Federation (WEF) Operations Challenge in New Orleans.
Dubbed the "Wastewater Olympics" by WEF members, the Ops Challenge showcases the skills of wastewater professionals from around the country at Water Environment Federation Technical Exposition and Conference (WEFTEC), WEF's annual conference. OMI's Fluid Dynamics team from Richmond, Virginia, won the Division 1 competition.
Ops Challenge tests the skills of operators in five categories: maintenance, safety, laboratory analysis, process control and collections systems. Fluid Dynamics finished first overall, first in safety and second in lab and pump maintenance.
Teams train for months for the competition, and winners from regional and state competitions qualify to compete at WEFTEC. The team beat out top-level veteran competitors, as more than 130 of the top wastewater professionals in the nation competed in the event.
