LOS ANGELES, Aug. 29, 2005 -- Teledyne Technologies Inc. subsidiary, Teledyne Investment Inc. has completed its acquisition of RD Instruments Inc. for about $37 million. RD Instruments (RDI) designs and manufactures state-of-the-art acoustic Doppler instrumentation. Located in San Diego, Calif., the business will operate as Teledyne RD Instruments Inc. Teledyne funded the acquisition primarily from borrowings under its $280 million credit facility arranged with a syndicate of banks. RD Instruments had sales of about $29.0 million for its fiscal year ended Dec. 31, 2004...

URS to buy China-based engineering firm
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 29, 2005 -- URS Corp. has acquired Austin Ausino Engineering Co. Ltd., a privately held provider of program management and construction management services to multinational clients entering the China market. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The transaction will enhance the company's existing resources in China, allowing URS to better serve its multinational clients investing in that market. In addition, Austin Ausino's technical capabilities in the area of program and construction management will augment URS' existing local capabilities, which are primarily focused on environmental engineering...

Leak stopped from PPL's Martins Creek Power Plant ash basin
ALLENTOWN, Pa., Aug. 29, 2005 -- Workers stopped the flow of water and ash from a leak in an ash basin that began Tuesday at PPL's Martins Creek power plant in Lower Mount Bethel Township, Northampton County, Pa. The leak was plugged at about 1 a.m. Saturday, said Tom Eppehimer, the power plant's manager. Workers placed an inflatable rubber seal in the discharge pipe that carries water from the basin to the nearby Delaware River. By inflating that seal they were able to stop the leak. Efforts throughout the day Friday to slow the flow of water by placing sandbags and metal plates in the discharge structure enabled workers to use the inflatable seal successfully...
