DENVER, CO, Aug. 8, 2005 -- Carollo Engineers announces the appointment of Mark Knudson as its director of Water Practice for the Northwest Region. Knudson will be based in the firm's Portland, Ore., office and will be responsible for planning and implementing water projects in the Pacific Northwest. Knudson's background in operations and maintenance, asset management, and capital improvement programs will help Carollo's clients achieve solutions to the increasingly complex issues that water utilities will be facing in the future.

Knudson has more than 20 years experience in environmental engineering, with tenure at the Portland Bureau of Water Works as Director of Maintenance where he managed all aspects of maintenance operations for a 210-mgd unfiltered surface water supply and 100-mgd groundwater supply. He supervised a staff of more than 140 employees and an annual operating budget of $15 million. As Water Quality Treatment Manager for the Bureau, Knudson was responsible for numerous water quality projects including chlorination improvements, chloramine residual optimization, corrosion control treatment, and treatment studies of groundwater and surface waters.

Knudson is a trustee of the Pacific Northwest Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA). He also is actively involved in the AWWA Research Foundation for the past 15 years including participation in numerous research projects and serving on the Research Advisory Council.

Knudson holds an M.S. in environmental engineering and a B.S. in civil engineering from Oregon State University. He is a registered professional in civil and environmental engineering and is a certified Water Distribution IV and Water Treatment III operator.
