WASHINGTON, DC, Nov. 16, 2005 -- The Water & Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers Association Inc. (WWEMA) is now accepting registrations for its rescheduled 97th Annual Meeting, which will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jan. 26-28.
"We are excited to announce that the WWEMA 97th Annual Meeting has been rescheduled for Jan. 26-28 at the Lago Mar Resort & Club in Ft. Lauderdale," said association president Dawn Kristoff. "Staff is making extraordinary accommodations to keep this meeting on track. In fact, additional speakers and social events are being added to the program, making this an even more robust and enjoyable meeting for all. Details will be forthcoming in the next few days. The meeting was originally scheduled for this month, but Hurricane Wilma -- which struck Florida's lower peninsula in October -- left the resort temporarily without any infrastructure, i.e., power, water and sanitation. Ironically, the theme of the event is: "SEA CHANGE . . . From Product Supplier to Solutions Provider."
Wilma made several landfalls, with the most destructive effects felt in the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico, Cuba, and the U.S. state of Florida. At least 47 deaths were reported, and insured damage was estimated at between US$8-12 billion (about $6-9 billion in the United States) and total damage likely to be in the $15-20 billion range, which would rank Wilma among the top 10 costliest hurricanes ever recorded in the Atlantic.
The Water and Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers Association (www.wwema.org) is a non-profit trade organization founded in 1908 to represent the interests of companies that manufacture products sold to the potable water and wastewater treatment industries.
