SOUTH NORWALK, CT, June 9, 2005 -- Wilks Enterprise Inc. has just published a new application note which details the use of portable infrared analyzers for easy, onsite wastewater analysis.

The note was prompted by recent action by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which has instituted stricter regulations covering discharges of "oily wastes" from facilities into publicity owed treatment plants (POTWs) facilities, forcing numerous industries to monitor their effluent more closely prior to discharge. This regulation affects such industries as food -- both processors and restaurants, metal fabrication, meat packing, cosmetic manufacturing, and industrial laundry establishments. In order to ensure compliance with the regulations more frequent wastewater measurements to detemine the fat, oil, grease (FOG) concentration level are necessary.

Using either the InfracCalTM TOG/TPH Analyzer, Model HATR-T2, or the Model CVH -- depending on the solvent selected for the extraction process -- onsite determinations of the total fat, oil, grease (FOG) concentration level in the wastewater can be easily and accurately determined in 10-15 minutes -- including extraction process. Measurement data obtained with the Model HATR-T2 will correlate to EPA Method 1664 and with the Model CVH to the new ASTM Method D 7066-04.

With either Infracal TOG/TPH Analyzer, operators of pretreatment systems can quickly and easily assess their system's efficiency and can see how it functions under heavy loads. They can also avoid discharging effluent that is above the regulatory limit.

Wilks Enterprise Inc. (www.wilksir.com), founded in 1995, specializes in the development and manufacture of infrared (IR) analytical instrumentation for dedicated quantitative applications. While these instruments are specifically designed for on-site field or at/near-line use, they're equally useful in analytical or testing laboratory. And they're ideal for supplementing capabilities of FT-IR Spectrometers in areas where it's not practical or economical to utilize such sophisticated costly instruments. Contact the company for a copy of the application note.
