FORT WASHINGTON, PA, June 23, 2005 -- Six wastewater treatment facilities owned by the Florida Governmental Utility Authority (FGUA) and operated by Severn Trent Services received awards for safety and operational excellence at the 80th Annual Florida Water Environment Association (FWEA) Meeting held during the Florida Water Resources Conference in Jacksonville, Florida on April 26.

Annual FWEA Safety Awards are presented to domestic wastewater treatment plants throughout Florida in recognition of their "exemplary safety programs." The Earle B. Phelps Award is presented annually to facilities maintaining "the highest removal of major pollution-causing constituents before discharging treated effluent to receiving waters."

FGUA facilities receiving 2005 FWEA Safety Awards included:
* Spring Gardens Wastewater Treatment Plant - First Place (Class C)
* Golden Gate Wastewater Treatment Plant - First Place (Class D)
* Poinciana Wastewater Treatment Plant #1 - Second Place (Class B)
* Poinciana Wastewater Treatment Plant #2 - Third Place (Class A)

Facilities receiving 2005 FWEA Earle B. Phelps Operational Excellence Awards included:
* Apache Shores Wastewater Treatment Plant - Runner-up (Class C)
* Poinciana Wastewater Treatment Plant #3 - Honorable Mention (Advanced Treatment)
