NEWBURY, OH, June 2, 2005 -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has selected Kinetico Inc.'s municipal drinking water technology for use in 17 full-scale demonstration sites in its National Arsenic Treatment Demonstration Program. The Ohio company was one of roughly 20 water treatment companies that submitted proposals for an opportunity to participate in the study, which consists of two rounds. Round one has a total of 12 communities participating, while round two involves 30 cities.
The National Arsenic Demonstration Program was created in response to the EPA's new, lower arsenic standard that requires treatment for all public drinking water systems with arsenic levels greater than 10 parts per billion (ppb), down from 50 ppb. In order to help smaller communities that serve less than 10,000 customers effectively meet the January 2006 deadline, the program will promote the research and development of cost-effective treatment technologies for small system operators.

The locations where various Kinetico arsenic removal systems will be used in the EPA program are as follows: Climax, Minn; Delavan, Wis; Sauk Centre, Minn; Valley Vista, Ariz.; Lidgerwood, N.D.; Fruitland, Idaho; Newark, Ohio; Lyman, Neb.; Felton, Del.; Pentwater, Mich.; Sabin, Minn.; Vale, Ore.; Klamath Falls, Ore.; Greenville, Wis.; Arnaudville, La., Homedale, Idaho; Three Forks, Mont.
With its participation in the program, Kinetico will install and oversee the various arsenic removal systems for about one year. These systems include Macrolite® coagulation, Macrolite iron co-precipitation, UltrAsorbTM-A, UltrAsorb-F, UltrAsorb-T, ion exchange for arsenic and nitrate and point-of-use reverse osmosis (RO). On completion of the individual projects, each utility will have the option of continuing use of the treatment system, or modifying it.
In addition to the community water treatment systems used in the EPA study, Kinetico also manufactures residential reverse osmosis products that effectively remove arsenic to the new standards. The K2TM Drinking Water System and the Kinetico Drinking Water System Plus Deluxe can remove as much as 97% of arsenic V from typical water supplies in North America. Both systems are certified by NSF International to Standard 58 for arsenic removal An optional add-on cartridge is also available for additional arsenic III removal.
