LAS VEGAS, Dec. 7, 2005 -- The contingency of water and wastewater treatment companies exhibiting at POWER-GEN International again complemented a field of excellent educational seminars that focused on the crucial element to any effective power generation program -- water quality.

The POWER-GEN exhibition is being held in Las Vegas from Dec. 6-8.

The educational lineup today will be highlighted today by Day 2 of the HRSG User's Group Steam Plant Workshop (Room 2702) -- accompanied by a general program HRSG session in Room 2306 this afternoon -- as well as an afternoon session on Environmental Water and Wastewater Issues (Room 2105-06).

While water and wastewater solutions providers for the power industry are scattered throughout the showroom floor, several are highlighted in the Water Pavilion, located in a separate room to the right of the exhibition entrance, along with the PennEnergy Jobs Career Fair.

Among the exhibitors there are Hach, which industrial sales development manager Carol Pullen noted recently introduced a new capability for its phosphate analyzers to reduce corrosion. "Previously, we had a congruent phosphate treatment program. Now, with a phosphate continuum program, they can check phosphate and maintain pH separately."

Hach also has copies of a case study available on use of its 8362c ultrapure water pH and ORP technology at MidAmerican Energy Co. facilities in Sioux City, Iowa, that was also featured in the November/December issue of Industrial WaterWorld.

Alan Daza, vice president of sales and marketing for Degremont's Anderson Water Systems, said one of its latest projects is an 800 MW combined cycle plant in Becancour, Quebec. "We're providing our state-of-the-art Densadeg™ high-rate clarifier as pretreatment to a multimedia RO, mixed bed for process water."

Zenon Environmental is touting its ABMet metals removal system, which it acquired along with Applied Biosciences this year. "It's offers biological treatment for metals removal related to FGD wastewater to take selenium, arsenic and mercury -- as well as other metals -- down," said Craig Lockhart, the company's eastern regional sales manager for industrial systems.

Highlighted for ProMinent Fluid Controls are its ProMus Series of hydraulically actuated chemical process pumps, which offer high pressure process metering for flow rates up to 101 gph and pressures up to 3,500 psi.

Slimline Manufacturing Ltd. displayed its Turbo-mist Evaporator unit. It helps maintain freeboard and eliminates waste for reclamation, providing an economic, environmentally acceptable solution for wastewater reduction.

Other Water Pavilion exhibitors include Air Liquide-Balazs Analytical, Amiad Filtration Systems, AquaTech International, Brackett Green USA Inc., ChemTreat, Eco-Tec, Hellan Strainers & Filtration Products, LAKOS Separators & Filtration Systems, LaMotte, Puretec, Screening Systems International (SSI), Synagro, and WesTech.
