IRVINE, CA, Oct. 27, 2005 (PRNewswire) -- For today's food and beverage producers, tight margins are a fact of life. Proper liquid analysis throughout the process keeps production running reliably and efficiently, and can mean the difference between profit and loss. Emerson Process Management today announced it will feature its complete line of Rosemount Analytical sensors and analyzers designed for the food and beverage industry at the Worldwide Food Expo at McCormick Place in Chicago, Oct. 26-29, 2005, at booth number N2714. The Emerson food and beverage industry solutions include instruments for the on-line, continuous monitoring of conductivity, dissolved oxygen, pH and chlorine. In particular, the Model Bx438 dissolved oxygen sensor and the Model 245 flow-through toroidal conductivity sensor are especially well suited to the needs of food and beverage processors.

The Model Bx438 dissolved oxygen sensor outperforms other sensors by withstanding more caustic clean-in-place cycles and maintaining its measurement accuracy. The sensor's rugged electrode construction ensures stability even after numerous sterilization cycles. Competitive DO sensors often require maintenance after as few as three to five cycles, but the Bx438 lasts through as many as 30 to 50 cycles. The sensor features a proprietary steel-meshed, double-layer membrane that's less sensitive to fouling elements than competitive technologies and enables the sensor to withstand high pressure and temperature while maintaining high diffusion rates, resulting in stable outputs and fast response times. In addition, the acidic electrolyte lasts longer than sensors using alkaline electrolyte solutions. The total cost of ownership for the Model Bx438, including membrane replacement, electrolyte replenishment, cathode replacement, and labor, is almost a third of the cost of competitive sensors.

The Model 245 flow-through toroidal conductivity sensor consists of a pair of wire-wound toroids that are completely isolated from the process, so it can endure harsh environments better than conventional sensors that can become coated since they have electrodes exposed to the measured solution. Designed to withstand both clean-in-place and sterilize-in-place installations, the Model 245 sensor is available in four different line sizes ranging from half-inch to two inches, is manufactured with FDA-compliant wetted materials (316L Stainless Steel, EP and unfilled-PEEK), and designed to meet 3-A sanitary standards. The tri-clamp process connections ensure sanitary conditions and convenient process installation. The sensor isn't sensitive to flow rate or direction and doesn't obstruct the process flow. Constructed from highly chemical-resistant materials it is extremely rugged.

"Because of the tight profit margins in food and beverage manufacturing, our customers require complete production uptime and process efficiency. On-line, continuous, and accurate liquid analysis of key measurements is critical to a plant's productivity and profitability," commented John Wright, vice president of marketing, Emerson Process Management, Rosemount Analytical.

"Emerson's analytical instruments offer unmatched reliability in terms of long life and reduced maintenance requirements, making Emerson the clear choice as the single-source provider of liquid analytical solutions for food and beverage processing."

In addition to the Models Bx438 and 245, Emerson will also demonstrate its complete line of analyzers, transmitters and sensors for the food and beverage industry based on 60 years of process analytical expertise and backed by worldwide customer support. The Rosemount Analytical Models 1055 dual-input analyzer, 54e analyzer/controller, Xmt two-wire transmitter, and 5081 smart two-wire microprocessor analyzer feature FOUNDATION Fieldbus and HART connectivity; low maintenance requirements; and low total cost of ownership.

The Model 499A CL free residual chlorine sensor eliminates wet chemical analysis. The Model 499A CL features the chemically rugged Noryl body, which ensures longer life in harsh applications, and a simple screw-on membrane cap means that no tools are required for routine maintenance. The Model 399 pH sensor is the industry's most chemically and mechanically durable, and is specifically designed for long life in such harsh applications as processes with low ionic-strength water or hydorfluoric acid, high pH, andreference-poisoning elements.

All of these analyzers, transmitters and sensors are designed specifically for the requirements of food and beverage processing and are currently available for order.
