The US$ 9-million Cholistan potable water project that includes four pipelines measuring a total of 255 km will be completed by 31 December, according to the Cholistan Development Authority (CDA).
Funded by the Asian Development Bank, the project began one year ago and the pipelines are undergoing testing before being handed over to the CDA. The first section of the project comprises a 34-km pipeline from Mirgarh to Churi. The second section of the network includes a pipeline and 12 potable water tanks, each having a capacity of 12,000 gallons. The third section is a 88.5-km pipeline from Chak 111/DNB to Nawankot, and the fourth section is a 43.5-km pipeline from Khutri Dahar to Tufana.
The CDA will maintain the pipelines, but the army will supervise activities. The government is considering a recommendation for a new US$ 4.4-million scheme to lay three more pipelines in Cholistan.
