Christie Whitman to deliver WEFTEC keynote in honor of Clean Water Act anniversary

Current U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Christie Whitman has been confirmed to deliver the keynote address at the Opening General Session of WEFTEC 2002.

Sept. 25, 2002 -- Current U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Christie Whitman has been confirmed to deliver the keynote address at the Opening General Session of WEFTEC 2002.

WEFTEC is a major municipal and industrial wastewater and environmental event planned for Sept. 28-Oct. 2 in Chicago, Ill. It is run by the Water Environment Federation, or WEF for short, and WEF officials expect about 15,000 attendees this year.

The former governor of New Jersey is expected to present a perspective on progress made since the Clean Water Act was established and outline the agency's water goals for the future.
Other speaker invitees include Chicago Mayor Richard Daley and a NASA representative.

Daley is expected to welcome attendees to "The Windy City" and a NASA representative is anticipated to present an overview of its latest mission - the Aqua satellite.

Also, current WEF President Jim Clark will review the past year and kick off the celebration of WEF's 75th anniversary including highlights of the federation's history.

Clean Water Act celebrates 30th anniversary

The Water Environment Federation has partnered with America's Clean Water Foundation (ACWF) to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act. October 18, 2002 will mark the day and serve as a milestone in the efforts to protect our nation's water resources. New session on water infrastructure security added to technical program

New session titled "Remediation of Soils and Groundwater: Case Studies in Environmental Health Hazards: World Trade Center Collapse, Anthrax Investigations, Dover Township, New Jersey" will offer presentations from experts designed to provide the latest discoveries and up-to-the-minute reports on efforts to contain environmental contamination. The exhibition portion of the conference will include about 800 exhibitors demonstrating a range of wastewater-related equipment and services, touching on such critical water quality issues as utility management, groundwater remediation, watershed management, water reuse, biological monitoring and biosolids management.
