BATON ROUGE, LA, Apr. 2, 2009 -- Second Louisiana Resource, LLC (SLR), a subsidiary of Resource Environmental Solutions (RES), has completed the restoration of 3.74 miles of stream and associated riparian buffer in Catahoula Parish. The site, Black Bayou Mitigation Bank Phase II, will provide 105.1 acres of stream restoration credits providing a mitigation solution to oil and gas companies, developers and municipalities to offset their unavoidable impacts to streams in the Vicksburg District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Stream and riparian buffer restoration will enhance retention of stormwater and minimize erosion and sedimentation of neighboring waters. Removal of floodplain areas from agriculture use will eliminate application of fertilizers and reduce nitrogen and phosphorus runoff to the restored streams. The restoration will also provide shading, keeping water temperatures cooler and reducing high velocity sheet flow across the soil surface while increasing bio-filtration.
