ISO 14001:2004 is an internationally recognized management standard designed to continually improve environmental performance. It provides guidance on how to manage the environmental aspects of an organization's activities, products and services more efficiently, while taking into consideration environmental protection, pollution prevention and socio-economic needs.

"Developing a management system to oversee the day-to-day challenges of using hazardous materials to produce safe drinking water while maintaining the safety of both workers and the environment and compliance with environmental laws is a proactive way to reduce and manage the various risks and liability associated with this work," said Charles Sisitsky, Natick Public Works Director. "Having the management system registered to the ISO 14001:2004 standard demonstrates that our system meets an international business standard, the same standard that many Fortune 500 companies adhere to."

ISO 14001 registration recognizes Natick's successful implementation of its environmental management system helping the Town implement a proactive cost effective program of Plan, Do, Check and Act to manage the risks associated with the work of producing and delivering safe drinking water to the community.

"The town of Natick understands the impact of its operations on the environment and the importance of compliance to regulations to continually improve its environmental initiatives," said NSF International Strategic Registrations General Manager Christian Lupo.
