Black & Veatch to assess dam safety in Hong Kong

Hong Kong SAR, China, Oct. 15, 2007 -- Black & Veatch, a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company, has been selected by the Water Supplies Department in Hong Kong SAR to assess the condition of water reservoirs in Hong Kong that will further enhance the safety and reliability of reservoir operations.

During the next five years, Black & Veatch will be responsible for making recommendations on safety enhancements at 10 impounding reservoirs and 25 large service reservoirs, as well as providing as-needed advisory services on safety-related issues for all reservoirs.

"We have fully utilized our integrated global workforce to assemble a strong technical team for this assignment," said Ralph Eberts, Managing Director of Black & Veatch's water business in Asia Pacific. "Our team includes engineers based in Hong Kong, two UK reservoir safety panel engineers from Black & Veatch's Europe water business and a principal dam engineer from our team in Australia."

Black & Veatch's involvement with reservoir engineering in Hong Kong began in the 1930s with the company's work on the Shing Mun scheme, said Alan Man, Associate Vice President of client services for Black & Veatch's water business in Mainland China and Hong Kong SAR.
