ARLINGTON, VA, Nov. 1, 2004 -- The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has selected a CDM Inc.-led team to be one of three consortia to carry out projects under the 5-year, $250 million environmental health indefinite quantity contract, a far-reaching technical support contract to alleviate many of the most critical health challenges facing today's global population.

The program supports USAID's continued successful work in 12 key areas of environmental health, with the overall objective of reducing childhood morbidity and mortality in developing countries by reducing exposure to agents of disease and to environmental hazards that exacerbate disease. Priority areas include water supply and sanitation; solid waste management; vector control; infection control, including medical waste management and improved hygiene in health facilities; integrated programming of population-health-environment activities in areas of sensitive biodiversity; and indoor air pollution.

Throughout the program, CDM and its partners will apply the technical and program management expertise garnered during the firm's long history implementing large-scale, flagship projects for USAID, including award-winning programs such as the 15-year Water and Sanitation for Health Project and the decade-long Environmental Health Project, completed this year.

"CDM is honored once again to have the opportunity to work with USAID to support its long-term environmental health initiatives. This award continues a 25-year tradition of collaborating with USAID on projects that contribute significantly to improving human health and addressing environmental health on a global scale," says J. Ellis Turner, CDM senior vice president.

CDM Inc. is a global, full-service consulting, engineering, construction, and operations firm helping public and private clients improve the environment and infrastructure.
