15,000 industrial facilities subject to regulatory changes

Westford, MA, Feb. 16, 2004 -- Risk Management Plans (RMPs) for an estimated 15,000 U.S. facilities will need to be updated by June 2004 to comply with a pending rule revision by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

RMPs were first submitted to EPA in June 1999 by facilities that store or handle highly toxic or flammable chemicals.

Last summer, EPA proposed a list of changes to RMP submittal requirements that it intends to implement by March 2004. ENSR International (www.ensr.com) has prepared a summary of these proposed changes and how these may affect their clients' facilities.

ENSR helped over 100 clients to prepare and implement their original risk management plans at more than 500 facilities.

Facilities updating their risk management plans for their 5-year renewal, due June 2004, will need to follow EPA's new requirements. The new rule will affect emergency contact information, RMP revision "triggers", Executive Summary information, and additional data elements.

To learn how EPA's proposed rule will affect your risk management plan, facility representatives may request ENSR's Risk Management Planning Update at (800) 722-2440 or http://www.ensr.com/request.
